Shopping and cycling

We have had a couple of goodies recently among the run of rainy days.  On Wednesday, we went to Lucca for the shops, and a run round the walls - by bike - there are plenty of other people doing the running!

The "normal" weather scene in Barga this year

The iconic church and square of Lucca - San Michele in Foro - built on the site of the Roman forum of the ancient town
In the main shopping street - Via Fillungo, with the 14th cent. Tower of the Hours - the tallest in Lucca, in the background

A cage of Gouldian finches in the street market - looking a bit gloomy? - hard to tell with birds ...
More birds - a little egret on the grassy slope of the city wall takes flight, as we make our way to a trattoria for lunch
With hired bike up on the wall

  1. indeed, what a gloomy sight of Barga on a normal winter day! many foreigners have an idea of Italy with sunshine, pizza and mandolins; fortunately not every winter is so gloomy!
