The Dolomites 2

Today we went up by cable car to some higher hikes among the spectacular peaks.  Although the area is not busy at the moment, the trappings of the winter sports industry are all around.  Everywhere there are cafes purveying coffee and apfel strudel!

The famous edelweiss - they appeared commonly on our walk

Meadows of gentians lay on every hand

Forebidding skies added drama to our trek

But when the sun came out, all was well

We crossed this large alpine meadow on the way up

    What a beautiful treck. The picture with the gentians and mountains is spectacular. Such beautiful flowers. Sarah and I had to look quite hard for edelweiss when we were at Grandparadiso
