Moena - Cycle trip down the valley

On Friday, we got bikes from our hotel in Moena, and took off down the valley to visit the adjacent villages.

Anyone who knows Orkney knows the Ialian chapel on Lambs Holm.  The chapel was built by Italian prisoners of war who ere captured in North Africa.  They were in Orkney to help in the construction of the Churchill barriers.

The artist who designed and painted the interior was Domenico Chiocchetti, who came from Moena.

It started chilly, but the sun slowly made its way to the valley bottom ...
Timber is obviously a big industry in the valley
Having a breather as we passed through one of the villages

In one of the villlages, it was the custom to create these "Baete" (chalets) in the woodpiles.  They are only a hand-span wide, but are fully furnished!  Very charming

As we were admiring the baete, this man appeared and invited us into his private taverna where he gave us cherry grappa! A very rare occurrence!

And back to Moena, with its massive wooden sign - everything here is made of wood ...
